Framing

We utilize framing as a building method to prepare your walls for gypsum board installation. Framing allows our team to install drywall sheets with precise proportions. Without the proper framework, drywall sheets would have to be trimmed to custom dimensions on a regular basis. The homeowner would incur increased material and labor costs because of this. We want to avoid that if we can so we offer plasterboard framing services whether it comes to putting up drywall in basement areas or office spaces. Next we'll double-check the walls to make sure all of the electrical boxes and other elements are properly framed before applying the final touches.

Hanging Drywall

Installing new drywall panels on your wall is known as hanging drywall. Cutting, measuring, hanging and fastening sheetrock according to your specifications are all part of putting up drywall. We install your drywall using industry-standard drywall sheets, saving you money over having custom sheets cut for your home as much as possible, ensuring there are minimal surplus materials. Throughout the partition installation process, we want to make sure there are as few seams as possible, measuring and double-checking our work while we construct the wall. We've been hanging drywall on ceiling boards and walls for many years and are experts at providing each task to perfection.

Drywall Installation Cost

It's difficult to provide the exact cost to install drywall. The cost to install one piece of drywall differs depending on a range of factors, such as the company you hire, the complexity of the project, the type of materials you choose, labor expenses and more. Thus, even when considering one piece of drywall, you can’t set a specific figure. For example, the cost of installing drywall in a basement will be much different than the cost of a bathroom drywall installation because the size of the job maters as well as whether or not you use regular drywall or moisture resistant drywall.

Another crucial factor to take note of is the preparation work required. If your current foundation has existing structural issues and imperfections, these will first need to be repaired and properly prepared before you can install the drywall.

To get an accurate quote of the cost of your project, you need to get an inspection done by a professional contractor. They will be able to assess and evaluate your space, determine the extent of work required, and calculate a precise cost.

  • Is There a Difference Between Sheetrock and Drywall?

The terms ‘sheetrock’ and ‘drywall’ are often used interchangeably. Drywall is a specific type of material used in the construction of ceilings and walls and is often made out of gypsum (calcium sulfate dihydrate) or plywood and wood pulp.

Sheetrock is simply a specific drywall brand name that has a number of different types of drywall. These drywall types differ in terms of size and thickness. Therefore, sheetrock is drywall. However, sheetrock is considered a higher-quality type of drywall as it undergoes industry-leading quality control testing.

When compared to generic drywall, sheetrock is considered a superior option that will last longer and offer your property more strength and durability, especially when it comes to enduring harsh weather conditions.

  • Do You Leave a Gap Between Drywall Sheets?

Yes, there is supposed to be a small gap between drywall sheets, known as a drywall joint or seam. This gap serves a specific purpose; therefore, it's vital that the gap be the right amount of space, which is usually 1/8-inch thick.

The purpose of the gap is to provide sufficient space for the application of drywall mud. This is crucial as it allows for a smooth and even surface to be created, which also hides seams and joints, the joint compound, and drywall tape.

If you fail to leave an appropriate gap between the drywall sheets, they're more likely to press against one another, which can cause the drywall to break after or during installation.

  • How Far Apart Should Drywall Screws Be Spaced?

Various drywall manufacturers recommend that drywall screws be placed 8-16 inches apart when installing a 4x8-foot drywall sheet. However, if you’re working with larger sheets of plasterboard, such as 4x10 or 4x12, you should space the screws approximately 10-20 inches apart.

The spacing will differ when installing drywall edges and ceilings. When it comes to edges, the screws should be placed approximately 8 inches apart from one another. Ideally, the screws need to be placed along the edges as tightly as possible but far enough that the edges don't crumble.

On ceiling fields, the screws should be placed a maximum of 12 inches apart. However, when screwing the ceiling edges, they should be spaced between 7 and 8 inches apart. This is important to create smooth seams, which will simplify the mudding and taping process.

  • Should Drywall Touch the Floor?

No, you should leave a space of approximately ½-inch to 5/8-inch gap between the floor and drywall. If your drywall touches the floor you will need to create a gap. This is necessary because:

    • Walls and floors expand and contract when the weather changes: If the drywall touches the floor, this will place immense pressure on the drywall and floor upon expansion. This could result in cracked drywall and concrete.
    • Drywall absorbs moisture: If there’s no gap between the concrete and drywall, the drywall will absorb any on the floor, which could cause mold growth and rotting.
    • Many concrete floors are not level: If the floor is not level and the drywall touches it, it will cause the drywall to not be level as well, which can cause large gaps between the wallboard sheets.
